Role of assistant pharmacist in dispensing lugol's solution:
1.The preparation should be stored in airtight iodine resistant container.
2.The closure must have a liner made from a material (e.g. polyvinyl chloride) which is resistant to attack by iodine.
3.The appropriate label is "store in a cool place" because iodine is volatile.
4.Keep away from children.
5.Used for treatment thyrotoxicosis prior to thyroidectomy.
6.Potassium iodine is used orally for the prophylaxis and treatment of simple goiter.
7.The instruction should include the dilution of the solution with milk or water to mask the unacceptable taste of the solution and to decrease its irritant effect on the gastric mucosa.
